madrid - Spanish opposition party sparks controversy with AI video referencing Temptation Island, leading to apologies and removal of footage.

Spanish Opposition Party AI Video Controversy

The conservative Spanish Volkspartij (PP) created a controversial AI video titled 'Corruption Island', featuring Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and his wife in reference to Temptation Island.

  • Video aimed to criticize government corruption.
  • PP's suspended Transport Minister, José Luis Ábalos, depicted holding a cocktail.

Investigations into accusations of abuse of power by the Prime Minister's wife, Begoña Gómez, are ongoing. Allegations suggest she used her influence to secure sponsors for a university program she led.

International Backlash

The Dominican Republic expressed anger over the video's reference to a 'corruption island', denouncing it as a malicious attack for Spanish political gains.

Following the uproar, PP withdrew the video, clarifying their intention to expose government corruption without tarnishing the Dominican Republic's image.

Apologies Issued

Prime Minister Sánchez apologized to Santo Domingo post-EU summit, expressing regret for not promptly addressing the issue.

He emphasized Spain's close ties with the Dominican Republic, stating his deep shame and offering sincere apologies for the incident.
