South Korean President Returns to Golfing Due to Donald Trump's Presidency

seoul - President Yoon Suk-yeol of South Korea has resumed his golfing activities after a hiatus of eight years, citing the need to engage with President Donald Trump of the United States on the golf course.

President Yoon Suk-yeol of South Korea, who had not played golf for around eight years, has returned to the golf course as a result of Donald Trump becoming the President of the United States. This decision was made in order to facilitate conversations between the two countries.

A spokesperson stated, "In order to continue the dialogue between our countries, it is important that our president is able to hit the ball well." Yoon has already played two or three rounds of golf. Trump, known for his avid interest in golf, has led South Koreans to anticipate that at least some of the discussions between the two presidents will take place on the golf course.

The key concern for the Seoul government is how Trump will handle the Korean issue this time. During his first term, he developed a friendship with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. Despite initial disagreements and name-calling, their relationship improved over time, leading to a perceived relaxation on the Korean Peninsula.

However, this relaxation was merely superficial. Despite multiple high-level meetings and friendly exchanges of letters, North Korea continued its uranium enrichment activities for a nuclear bomb. The South Koreans were skeptical of the détente initiated by Trump, which is evident from their 2022 election of Yoon, a strong advocate regarding North Korea.

The challenging relationship with the North and Trump's involvement in it are not the only concerns for the South Korean president. The country heavily relies on exports, and with the prospect of American import tariffs - a campaign promise of the new American president - Yoon will need to make considerable efforts to curry favor with Trump in order to minimize the impact of the tariffs.
