Somalia calls state of emergency

mogadishu - Somalia has been declared in the most affected regions a state of emergency because of the serious food crisis. President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed Farmajo did Tuesday for an urgent appeal to the international community and expatriate Somalis quickly help to 'prevent a human tragedy.'

Somalia is the drought on the brink of a famine. In the poor East African country, according to the United Nations, six million people, about half the population dependent on humanitarian aid.

Approximately 360 000 children are severely malnourished, of whom 70 000 die acute danger. In the previous famine in 2011, a quarter of a million Somalis arrived according to UN data.
