Solar Plane reaches US coast

- The Swiss experimental aircraft Solar Impulse 2, entirely on solar power makes a scenic flight around the world, on Sunday after a flight of nearly three days from Hawaii to reach the west coast of the United States.

Pilot Bertrand Piccard (58) put the unit in Mountain View, California to the ground, after sunset circled made the Golden Gate and San Francisco Bay.

In March 2015 two Solar Impulse took off from Abu Dhabi and flew from there to India and China to Hawaii. Because of damage to the battery's team Piccard, André Borschberg and his colleagues (63) was there to take a break of nine months.

More than 17 000 solar cells on the wings supply the energy for the engines manufactured from carbon fiber unit. The project aims to demonstrate the potential of renewable solar energy.
