brussels - The European Commission is making six million euros available to Bosnia and Herzegovina to help manage migrant flows. The money will be used to improve the identification, registration and referral of asylum seekers who have crossed the border.

It also provides shelter and basic facilities for refugees and migrants. Border surveillance and control in the Balkan country is being stepped up, which, according to Brussels, will contribute to the prevention and combating of trafficking in human beings.

In June, Brussels transferred 1.5 million euros to the government in Sarajevo to alleviate the immediate humanitarian needs of asylum seekers. The number of refugees in the Balkan countries has increased again since November. For example, according to local authorities, Bosnia saw 4900 migrants entering the country since the beginning of this year, of whom there are still 2,500 in the country.
