paris - The 37-year-old Xavier Jugelé, shot by a terrorist on the Champs Elysées on Thursday night, was one of the hundreds of police officers in November 2015 deployed at the Bataclan massacre.

He was also present at the reopening of the building a year later, when Sting gave a concert.

Jugelé was a police officer since 2010 and was known as a fighter of gay rights. 'He was an ordinary man who kept his job and he greatly committed himself to the rights of LHBTs,' said Mickaël Bucheron, president of the band for lesbian, homosexual, bisexual and transgender police officers against the New York Times. 'He has been a member of our covenant for several years and he protested with us against the prohibition of homosexual propaganda during the Sochi Olympics. '

The agent would soon make a move to another department within the police. He had even had his farewell drink. In early May he would have celebrated his 38th birthday.\n  \n   \n    \n    \n   \n   \n   \n      \n   \n     Xavier Jugelé.\n    \n   \n     Photo: AP

'He knew the risks of his work and the terrorist threat,' Bucheron said. 'But we did not talk about it often. He was a good man and friend. It's a huge shock for us. '

President Hollande promised Thursday evening that there will be an official tribute to the killed agent in the coming days.

Jugelé came about when terrorist Karim Cheurfi opened the fire on his car when he was in front of a red traffic light. The agent got two bullets in his head and died on the spot.
