An orthodox Jewish man in Chicago was shot multiple times in the shoulder while on his way to a synagogue on Saturday. The 23-year-old suspect, who shouted 'Allahu Akbar' according to surveillance footage, engaged in a shootout with the police and was subsequently shot and hospitalized, just like the victim.

The 39-year-old victim sustained serious injuries and is currently being treated, as reported by the New York Post. The shooter attacked in the 2600 block of North Washtenaw Avenue, a neighborhood where many orthodox Jewish families reside. The news was only picked up by major American news outlets a day later. The Jerusalem Post reported that surveillance footage captured the man shouting the Arabic phrase 'Allahu Akbar'.

The rampaging suspect reportedly also targeted multiple police officers and a firetruck. He was subdued after about three minutes and remains in critical condition. The suspect faces charges including six counts of attempted murder. The motive behind the attack is still unclear, as the police have not been able to interrogate him yet.
