gran canaria, tenerife - Authorities warn tourists to stay indoors as heavy flooding sweeps cars through the streets of popular Spanish holiday destinations.

Severe Weather Causes Chaos in Gran Canaria and Tenerife

The Canarian Islands have been heavily affected by severe weather, with Gran Canaria and Tenerife bearing the brunt of the impact. Video footage and photos from Telde, located in the eastern part of Gran Canaria, show the hardest hit area where cars are being dragged into the sea by mudslides, turning streets into raging rivers. There is no information yet on possible casualties, but local media images show drivers being helped out of their vehicles.

At least 80 people were stranded in a supermarket on Tenerife due to high water levels in a parking lot, preventing them from reaching their cars. Emergency services are pumping water out of the parking lot to allow people to exit the building.

A rain warning for Gran Canaria specifically targets areas such as Arucas, Teror, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Santa BrĂgida, Valsequillo, and Telde. Snowfall has also been reported in higher-altitude areas of the Canary Islands.

If you have been affected by the severe weather, we would like to hear your story. Please reach out to our WhatsApp tip line.
