Several killed in action against IS in Turkey
- In a gunbattle between security forces and followers of the terrorist militia Islamic State (IS), nine people have been slain in the southeastern Turkish city of Diyarbakir. It involves two policemen and seven suspected militants IS, DHA news agency reported Monday.
The shootout occurred after a raid on a house. When the action also were two policemen injured. Three IS supporters were arrested.
The Turkish government IS responsible for a double suicide bombing in the capital Ankara, where on October 10 more than a hundred people were killed. After these attacks, the Turkish authorities have stepped up operations against suspected IS cells.
President Tayyip Erdogan said last week that not only Islamic State, but also Kurdish militants were behind the attack on pro-Kurdish activists.
