World December 3, 2017 20:09

munich - CSU leader Horst Seehofer is in principle willing to transfer his position as prime minister of Bavaria to a successor for the state elections in the autumn of 2018. As possible time he has mentioned the first quarter of next year. This has confirmed a source within the party management vis-à-vis the DPA news agency.

Earlier in the day, Seehofer (68) proposed to stand as party chairman, but not as head of the CSU for the Bavarian parliamentary elections. The party summit held Sunday talks about the already weeks of power struggle in the ranks and about the future of the current foreman.

Seehofer is under pressure, partly due to the disappointing outcome of the Bundestag Election, to at least make one leading position. Monday is an extraordinary meeting of the board and the group. Then it should also be clarified whether the CSU Minister of Finance puts Markus Söder forward as prime minister or that the group wants to vote between him and Joachim Herrmann, the Minister of the Interior.
