Schizophrenic Triple Murderer Refused Medication Due to Fear of Needles

nottingham - British triple murderer Valdo Calocane did not take medication for a long time due to his fear of needles.
Valdo Calocane's Struggle with Schizophrenia
Valdo Calocane, a triple murderer suffering from schizophrenia, avoided taking medication for a considerable period as he feared needles. Calocane is currently institutionalized for committing 'extremely serious' acts of violence, including fatally stabbing three out of five individuals. The English NHS disclosed reports highlighting deficiencies in Calocane's care, given his schizophrenia diagnosis.
The 300-page report documents Calocane's violent and disturbing behavior, such as 'hostaging' his housemates, assaulting a police officer, and causing his neighbor to jump out of a first-floor window due to fear. The report notes systemic failures in Calocane's treatment, particularly regarding understanding and managing the risks he posed to the community.
Convicted in 2024 for manslaughter by diminished responsibility and attempted murder, Calocane's dangers to society were allegedly not fully comprehended, managed, documented, or communicated. Despite four hospitalizations between 2020 and 2022, Calocane was repeatedly discharged for inadequate communication with healthcare staff.
Upon receiving a diagnosis of schizophrenia, Calocane was prescribed injectable antipsychotics, which he never took due to his needle phobia and denial of his mental health condition.
Responding to the report, NHS Regional Medical Director Jessica Sokolov acknowledged the system's failures and the potential devastating consequences, offering unconditional apologies to the victims' families for the care provided to Valdo Calocane before the tragic incidents.
