addis abeba - Saudi Arabia has approved the release of about one thousand Ethiopian prisoners, who are detained in the Gulf State for various reasons. Addis Abeba said that in the media on Saturday. The Saudi decision was the desired response to a request from the Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who this week paid an official visit to Riyadh.

Among the detainees who let Riyadh go are a hundred women. It is unclear why they were convicted. Hundreds of thousands of Ethiopians live in the Gulf region, most in Saudi Arabia. The authorities in the Sunni kingdom are in the process of expelling more than half a million illegal immigrants from Ethiopia. So far, 160,000 have already been returned to the Horn of Africa.
