Sarkozy in court for abuse of power

paris - French former president Nicolas Sarkozy has to appear in court on suspicion of abuse of power. That reports the newspaper Le Monde. The politician would have used his influence to obtain information about an investigation into alleged irregularities surrounding his election campaign in 2007.

The Sarkozy lawyer was not immediately available for comment on Thursday. Prosecutors have also put the politician in the spotlight for another matter, which revolves around the question whether Sarkozy's campaign was partly financed in 2007 by money from the then Libyan leader Muammar Kaddafi.
