Russians are flying along North America again

moscow - The Russian armed forces have again started flights for the purpose of fighting submarines along the North American coast for the first time since the time of the Soviet Union. This is what the Defense Minister Sergei Sjojgoe said on Wednesday according to Russian media.

Sjojgoe said that a special plane intended for the detection of submarines for the first time since the Soviet era performed a training flight over the North Pole and along the American coast. It is part of the strengthening and modernization of the Northern Fleet.

Russia is working hard to expand and modernize the military presence along the north coast and in the Arctic. This happens, for example, on the archipelago of Frans Jozefland, about 1200 kilometers northeast of Murmansk. There the new and northernmost military base, Arctic Clover leaf, has risen. The complex is permanently staffed with approximately 150 people.

Russia foresees that global warming will provide waterways in the Arctic. It will also be easier to mine the resources of the polar region.
