russia, ukraine - The Russian military is increasingly utilizing donkeys and horses to transport goods to and from the frontline, as reported by The Moscow Times.

Russian Military's Use of Donkeys and Horses

The Russian military has been observed employing donkeys and horses to transport goods at the frontline, with reports indicating a growing trend in this practice. The Moscow Times has highlighted the appearance of donkeys in photos circulating on pro-Russian Telegram channels, indicating their involvement in supplying ammunition to frontline units. Military correspondent Alexander Garmajev previously shared images of units receiving ammunition from a donkey on February 4. The Telegram channel 'Military Informant' has also documented multiple instances of donkeys being used by the Russian military.

Political figures have not denied the use of these animals in military operations. Lieutenant General Viktor Sobolev, a member of the Defense Committee of the Russian State Duma, described the use of pack animals by the military as a 'normal' practice, emphasizing the importance of preserving the lives of soldiers and officers in the special military operation zone. Viktor Zavarzin, another committee member, highlighted the role of donkeys in navigating challenging terrains, stating that these animals contribute to achieving victory. He drew parallels with the assistance provided by dogs and cats in combat zones.

In early February, Forbes reported on the necessity for Russian troops to rely on horses due to a shortage of military vehicles at the frontline. Additionally, The Moscow Times noted the increasing use of civilian vehicles by Russian military personnel for logistical support and offensive maneuvers against Ukrainian positions. Military analyst Ian Matvejev commented on the critical lack of transport resources hampering the Russian military's ability to conduct strategic offensive operations.
