vovchansk - Russian media is circulating images from the Ukrainian town of Vovchansk showing the aftermath of an alleged thermobaric bomb attack.

Russian media is widely spreading images from the Ukrainian town of Vovchansk, indicating the use of a thermobaric bomb, also known as a vacuum bomb. These images reveal a devastating pressure wave making its way through everything in its vicinity.

The footage from Vovchansk, located 60 kilometers northeast of Kharkiv, suggests the deployment of a vacuum bomb, designed to incapacitate military personnel in bunkers or trenches.

The bomb, known as ODAB-9000, is considered the 'heaviest non-nuclear bomb' in Russia's arsenal and has allegedly been converted into a glide bomb by the Russian military. Despite being tested once in 2007, it never became an official part of the arsenal.

The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed earlier this year the use of thermobaric bombs in retaliation for the Ukrainian offensive in Kursk. However, Moscow has not responded to previous rumors about the use of vacuum bombs.

The Ukrainian side has condemned the use of vacuum bombs, alleging violations of the Geneva Conventions. Defence Express, a Ukrainian defense publication, has expressed doubts about the existence of a new type of vacuum bomb.
