Grigori Melkonjants, the head of Golos, a non-profit organization monitoring election irregularities, has been sentenced to prison in Russia. Golos labeled the 2024 presidential election, won by Vladimir Putin with 88% of the votes, as the most fraudulent in Russian history.

Prior to the election, Melkonjants was already detained, with his lawyer stating that the prosecution aims to silence independent observers from reporting election irregularities.
