Russian army starts with mega-exercise

moscow - The Russian forces have started the enormous multi-day military exercise Vostok 2018 (East 2018). More than 300,000 Russian soldiers participate in this. It is about the biggest maneuvers since the fall of the Soviet Union.

The Ministry of Defense reports that exercises have started in the Far East, which borders China. Tens of thousands of armored vehicles are used, as well as a thousand planes, helicopters and drones.

The department has Tuesday spread images of the military display of power. It shows how trucks are transported on trains, tanks are on the rise and fighter planes choose the airspace. Joint exercises with the Chinese and Mongolian forces are also planned.

Vostok 2018 is intended, among other things, to practice troop movements over longer distances. It also needs to show how well different army units coordinate their activities. Furthermore, various offensive and defensive scenarios are practiced.
