Russia wants to use airbase Cyprus

- Russia wants to use a military air base in Cyprus for actions in Syria and Iraq. The Russian ambassador Stanislav Osadtsji in Cyprus said Monday it has filed an application before the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the island state, reported the Cyprus Mail newspaper Monday.

Osadtsji said that Russia wants to use the same facilities as France and Germany, participating in the international coalition against terror organization Islamic State (IS). The two countries use an airbase in Paphos for refueling aircraft, evacuation operations and technical support.According to the Cypriot Minister Ioannis Kadoulidis of Foreign Affairs is working on a deal for the use of the base for,null, the evacuation of Russians from the Middle East and other emergencies.
