washington - Russia releases American teacher Marc Fogel after 14-year imprisonment for carrying medical marijuana, following talks between Trump envoy Steve Witkoff. The move is seen as a positive step towards ending the war in Ukraine.

Russia Frees American Prisoner

Russia has released American teacher Marc Fogel after he was arrested in 2021 for carrying medical marijuana into the country, serving a 14-year sentence. According to the White House, he has left for the United States with Steve Witkoff. The release is seen as a gesture of goodwill from the Russians and a positive step towards ending the war in Ukraine, as stated in the official statement.

Witkoff's visit to Moscow was the first known visit by a US government representative to Russia since the large-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine began in February 2022. This development comes after Trump's recent phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where Trump expressed his long-standing good relationship with Putin and a concrete plan to end the war without elaborating further.
