Russia rebukes Seoul: South Korea wants to destroy North Korean rule of law

peking - Russia is angry with South Korea for sending drones with propaganda to North Korea, threatening the 'rule of law' in the country.

The call from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is for ensuring peace and security. Moscow does not appreciate unrest on the Korean peninsula, especially now that President Vladimir Putin has become good friends with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, labeling Seoul as a troublemaker.

The recent escalation in the feud between Pyongyang and Seoul has led North Korea to separate its territory from South Korea by cutting off roads and railway lines. Seoul's military saw this coming and responded with warning shots when part of the Gyeongui line on the west coast and the Donghae line on the east coast were blown up by Pyongyang.

These two important roads and railway lines connecting the north and south were destroyed by explosives according to Seoul. The action, despite the roads being disused for years due to heavy security on one of the most fortified borders in the world, is seen as symbolic by experts in escalating tensions between the two countries.

North Korea considers the destruction a logical response to Seoul's alleged drone activities crossing the border. If another South Korean drone is detected above its territory, North Korea may consider it a 'declaration of war'. South Korea denies sending drones, but North Korea claims Seoul regularly spreads propaganda and 'incendiary rumors and nonsense'.

Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that such actions by South Korea constitute a clear violation of North Korea's sovereignty and internal affairs, aiming to destroy the country's rule of law and political framework. In the statement, not only South Korea but also the United States, an ally of Seoul, were mentioned.

Russia supports North Korea due to their growing ties since the invasion in Ukraine. Putin and Kim have visited each other and signed an extensive agreement in June promising 'mutual assistance' in case of an attack on either country. Putin emphasized elevating the relationship to a 'new level' and Kim Jong-un expressed 'full support and solidarity' ahead of the summit.

The relationship between Russia and North Korea is not only concerning to the US. In a video message, Ukrainian President Zelensky expressed being informed about 'North Korea's actual involvement in the war.' Ukrainian forensic experts claim to have found traces of North Korean weapons used in attacks on Ukrainian cities. Zelensky alleges that North Korea not only supplies arms but also sends civilians to help Russia at the front. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitri Peskov dismissed the accusations as a 'new hoax'.
