moscow - Russians can no longer use the chat app Telegram since Monday. The service is blocked. The telecom watchdog has passed that assignment to the providers. Russia also wants Telegram from the Apple App Store and the Play Store from Google.
Russia wants its secret service to get FSB the keys to read the encrypted messages from Telegram users. Telegram does not want to give it. That is why a court in Moscow on Friday had decided that Telegram should be blocked. Telegram appeals against this.
Telegram was set up by the brothers Nikolaj and Pavel Doerov. They were previously rich with the social network VKontakte, the 'Russian Facebook'. The brothers turned their backs on Russia a few years ago.
