Rotterdam does not accept digital referendum
rotterdam - In a referendum on the demolition of 20,000 social housing in Rotterdam will not be voted digital but with pencil and paper. Research by GroenLinks shows that 30 percent of Rotterdam does not have a DigiD and that means that group will be excluded from participation if there would be voted digital, reports RTV Rijnmond.
'Especially people in low income groups who do not have a DigiD and they just live in neighborhoods where this referendum is about,' says GroenLinks council member Bonte.
Mayor Aboutaleb wonders whether it is true that 30 percent have no DigiD. 'That they still need to apply for child benefit, housing benefit and health care benefits.' Yet he lies down on the ballot paper, now a majority of the City Council for. The Board is also concerned about hacking a digital mood.
