bucharest - Thirty thousand Romanians in Bucharest on Sunday took to the streets to protest against government plans to change prison laws. Cluj-Napoca six thousand people gathered. Also protested in other cities.
The government wants to pardon prisoners who have been given a prison sentence of less than five years. The government also wants to reduce or remove certain penalties, including for abuse of power. Many people criticize the plan because they would benefit corrupt politicians. 'No amnesty, we want you in jail,' was chanted.
