russia, sichote-alin mountain range, siberian forests, china - After being raised in captivity, Siberian tigers Boris and Svetlaya were released back into the wild separately. Boris embarked on a three-year journey to find Svetlaya, successfully reuniting with her.

After being rescued as orphaned cubs in the Sichote-Alin mountain range in the Russian Far East, Boris and Svetlaya were reintroduced into the wild as part of a conservation program to save the endangered Siberian tiger species. Separated by nearly 200 kilometers, Boris embarked on a remarkable journey to find his partner.

Over the course of three years, Boris traversed through the Siberian forests and eventually reunited with Svetlaya. Their love story culminated in Svetlaya giving birth to a litter of cubs, as announced by the Wildlife Conservation Society.

The strategy of reintroducing captive-raised big cats back into the wild has previously proven successful with the Iberian lynx in Spain. The success of Boris and Svetlaya offers hope for the dwindling Siberian tiger population, estimated to be between 485 to 750 tigers in Russia.
