Rescue service uses drones on the Baltic Sea

World May 8, 2018 17:54

schwerin - Swimmers in trouble in the Baltic Sea this summer can now expect help from special drones. Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is the first German coastal state to release the rescue services this coming season.

'The drones do not replace personnel, but in emergencies they can be quickly on site to throw floating agents that blow up automatically in the water. This can help to prevent panic and gain time, until the people of the rescue brigade are there, 'explained a spokesman for the DRK Wasserwacht of the German federal state.

The official opening of the German bathing season is on 15 May. Drones, which reach 85 kilometers per hour and are equipped with a camera, are deployed on fourteen popular beaches on the Baltic Sea and four inland lakes inland.
