Record number of 51 officers slain in Rio

rio de janeiro - This year so far slain in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro, 51 police officers. That's a record for the period since tracking those numbers began 23 years ago.

Throughout 2016 were 147 agents in Rio de Janeiro on a total of 46 000 police officers working in the state. By comparison, in Sao Paulo 89. 000 working agents; there were 54 deaths in 2016.

The number of deaths is attributed among police officers in Rio de Janeiro to the violence in the favelas. Drug gangs have it there to say, and often carry fierce gun battles with police.

Human rights groups accuse the police are using too much violence, the conflict in the favelas just cranking.
