The bowl was made at the beginning of the eighteenth century for the Chinese emperor Kangxi and has a diameter of 14.7 centimeters. He is decorated with Chinese and Western techniques.

The bowl was sold to an anonymous bidder from Asia within five minutes. It was made in an imperial workshop in the Forbidden City in Beijing by a group of artisans, with the help of European Jesuits who introduced them to new techniques and materials.
