kuala lumpur - An 11-year-old boy from Malaysia died after he had been ill-treated at an Islamic school. A local police chief in the southern state of Johor said that the student and other children with a water hose were bumped by a staff member of the institution.

Online circulate pictures of the boy whose legs were swollen by an infection. Doctors had to put off both legs. Then it hit a young victim in a coma. He died on Wednesday, reported Bernama press office. The police arrested the employee who would have handed out the charges.

The so-called tahfiz schools in the country have been under fire since the incident. Activists claim that such private institutions are often not registered with the Ministry of Education, which applies strict rules regarding bodily punishment.
