perth - Ships from several countries are in a race against time to save a wounded solo sailor. Indian Navy officer Abhilash Tomy participated in the Golden Globe Race, according to CNN, when his boat ran into trouble at some 3300 kilometers southwest of the Australian city of Perth.

Tomy sounded an alarm in a series of text messages, which he sent via a satellite connection. He said that his mast has been broken off and that he has suffered severe back injury. ' Can not eat or drink anymore '', wrote the sailor in a message. Tomy would not be able to walk and lie in bed either.

Australia, India and France have sent ships to rescue the sailor. Airplanes are also on their way. The Irish sailor Gregor McGuckin, who had ended up in the same stormy weather as Tomy, also tries to reach his colleague.
