sotsji - The leaders of Russia, Turkey and Iran see in the convening of a Syrian 'people's congress' a first step towards dialogue and a resolution of the conflicts in Syria.
This was explained by the leaders, Vladimir Putin, Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Hassan Rohani, respectively, on Wednesday. The proposal came in the Russian resort of Sochi from host Putin.
A wide range of people from society must participate in the congress, including opponents of Syria's President Assad. As soon as it is known who will participate, a first congress will be organized in Sochi, according to Russian media.
Putin stressed that people from the opposition in Syria and the opposition abroad, all kinds of political parties and religious communities and ethnic groups should come to the negotiating table.
