tel aviv - Russian President Putin has inherited an apartment in Tel Aviv from his former German teacher. Israeli media reported that Russian-born Israeli Mina Yuditskaya Berliner died in December at the age of 96 and had a home that Putin had bought for her. Berliner emigrated from Israel in 1973 from the Soviet Union to Israel.

Putin was fond of his German teacher in high school, and Berliner was fond of Putin the other way around. They met again in 2005 when Putin visited Israel. The widow Berliner asked the Russian embassy if she could come to a reception where Putin would be present. She got permission and Putin invited her for a private conversation.

Not long after, Putin sent gifts to Berliner who lived in a rental apartment in a southern suburb of Tel Aviv. One day a Russian official came to the door, offering her to come and see apartments in the center. A moment later she received the apartment as a gift. Berliner's funeral was arranged and paid for by the Russian embassy in Tel Aviv.
