Punishment for MS patient after fatal accident

darmstadt - A 53-year-old MS patient on Tuesday received a nine-month prison sentence in Germany on appeal because he had caused a fatal accident in June 2015 due to a cramping attack. Because of the cramp in his leg he pushed the accelerator of his car to the bottom, so he drove a pedestrian on a pedestrian crossing at Obertshausen with more than 140 kilometers per hour.

That 34-year-old woman, who had green light, was thrown 40 meters through the air and did not survive. She died on the spot. The man was convicted of involuntary manslaughter. He admitted before the court that he had doubted his driving skills before the accident. He has now handed in his driver's license and is in a wheelchair.

The driver had previously been fined 9000 euros. Justice appealed because it found a prison sentence in place.
