brugge - The elections held by the Spanish government in Catalonia on 21 December will be a public opinion on Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy. That is what the deposed Catalan president Carles Puigdemont believes.
Puigdemont collected the press, including the Spanish, around Brussels in Saturday. The Catalans, he argued, will make clear what they think by the Madrid elections. The authority in Madrid fired the Catalan government and sent the parliament home after the people in a referendum for secession. Puigdemont called for independence. At that point, Madrid intervened.
The 54-year-old Puigdemont has been staying with four of his ministers in Belgium since the end of October. Spain has asked for extradition of the quintet. The decision of Belgium is expected in mid-December. The dismissed Catalan leader presented his list of candidates for the elections in December on Saturday.
