Puigdemont may be extradited to Spain

schleswig - The Catalan separatist leader Carles Puigdemont may be extradited to Spain for misappropriation of public funds but not for rebellion. The court in the German state of Schleswig-Holstein has determined this.

It is now up to the Prosecutor General of the Land to determine whether the extradition request made by Spain will be honored.

Puigdemont was arrested in March after crossing the border with Germany from Denmark. He was on his way to Belgium, where he had been a 'politically persecuted' since his flight from Barcelona.

Puigdemont is wanted by Spain because he had declared the independence of Catalonia from Spain. The country has issued an international arrest warrant.
