Process against Zuma next month

World June 8, 2018 09:48

durban - The former president of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, has returned to court on Friday. The court in port city Durban decided to adjourn the case until July 27, to give the defense and prosecutors more preparation time.

The presidency of Zuma (76) ended earlier this year. He then stepped up before a vote of no confidence could be put to the vote. Zuma had been under fire for some time because of the ongoing accusations of corruption. He eventually lost the support of his own party, the ANC.

The authorities then announced that they would prosecute Zuma, including fraud and money laundering. The allegations are linked to an alleged bribe affair regarding the purchase of weapons for the South African armed forces. It is still unclear when the corruption process starts. Prosecutors say they are ready for this in November.

Zuma still has many supporters despite the affair. Hundreds of sympathizers had gathered at the court. The next session should take place in the city of Pietermaritzburg.
