Prisoner riot at protest French guards

World January 18, 2018 14:06

fleury-merogis - More than 120 prisoners in the big prison in the French Fleury-Mérogis refuse to return to their cells. The action coincides with protests from guards in France, who set up blockades at the entrances to penitentiary institutions. Wardens demand that they can do their work more safely and that requires more colleagues.

According to French media there have been no reports of violence, but a special unit is going to restore order. The prisoners started their resistance around noon, when it became clear that their time was being cut open outdoors, possibly as a result of protests from guards.

The prison complex of Fleury-Mérogis, just south of Paris, has 4300 prisoners and is the largest prison in Europe.
