bern - It should be easier for immigrants from the third generation in Switzerland to become Swiss citizens. A proposal to that effect was Sunday in a Swiss referendum by more than 60 percent of voters approved.

The 'simplified naturalization procedure 'applies to anyone already living in Switzerland for years under 25 whose parents and grandparents. They now follow the same procedure as foreign partners of Swiss citizens. Of the approximately 25 000 people who qualify is more than two-thirds already have a European passport.

Voters in the canton of Graubünden voted Sunday against a proposal by their government to bid for the organization of the Olympic Winter Games. It was the second time in four years that they rejected such a proposal.
