united states - Preparations continue for the meeting between Trump and Putin as National Security Advisor nominee Mike Waltz confirms ongoing efforts. Talks of ending the Russia-Ukraine conflict and negotiations for a Gaza prisoner release deal are among the main topics.

Preparations are in progress for the anticipated meeting between President Trump and President Putin, as stated by Mike Waltz, Trump's nominee for National Security Advisor.

In a statement to ABC News, Waltz expressed that efforts are ongoing for the potential meeting between Trump and Putin.

Waltz mentioned that steps to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict to be taken soon according to President Trump's perspective. He stated, 'You cannot reach an agreement without establishing a relationship and dialogue with the other party. We will definitely have done this in the coming months.'

Waltz also emphasized that the Trump administration is aware of the need to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict through diplomatic means, highlighting that a ceasefire would be highly beneficial for both sides.

Regarding negotiations for a deal to secure the release of prisoners in Gaza, Waltz indicated that discussions are 'currently ongoing,' underscoring Trump's seriousness on the matter. He expressed the desire to see an agreement reached before the elected president's inauguration on January 20.

When asked if Trump is serious about using military force to control Greenland or the Panama Canal, Waltz responded that Trump's top concern is the 'dangers' faced by the U.S. in the Arctic region, stating that he is ready to take bold and courageous actions to ensure the U.S. defense is robust.
