Preparations top Trump and Kim on steam
beijing - Kim Jong-un has visited China for the second time in two months. According to North Korean state television, Kim met with Chinese President Xi Jinping last Monday.
The meeting took place in the city of Dalian, relatively close to the North Korean border. The North Korean leader, during his interview with Xi, would have expressed the hope that all parties involved will take 'phased' and 'synchronized' measures, to rid the Korean peninsula of nuclear weapons and to bring about a lasting peace. The condition: the US in particular must stop its enemy policy against North Korea.
Xi said during a banquet for Kim in response that he supports the current North Korean strategy and that he supports the new focus of North Korea on economic development. Kim, in turn, said he appreciated the good relations with neighboring China. The two leaders want to strengthen their strategic alliance even further.
The new meeting between Xi and Kim seems to be part of the preparations at the top with US President Donald Trump. A week ago, the North Korean leader had a historic meeting with the South Korean president Moon Jae-in. The two met in the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea, emphasizing their intention to take steps towards peace. Moon Jae-in will visit Washington again later this month.
When Trump and Kim meet each other is still unknown, nor where they will meet. Trump said last weekend that he will come up with news about this in the short term. According to rumors that started earlier this week, the summit will take place in Singapore in the second half of June.
Other possible locations from the top are the aforementioned demilitarized zone and the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar.
