Premier Michel to Marrakesh despite tension

brussels - The Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel is present in the Moroccan city of Marrakesh on Monday to vote on the so-called Migration Pact, despite rapidly increasing tensions in his own government. The Prime Minister reiterated his proposal to support the pact.

On Saturday evening, the Council of Ministers met unexpectedly. Coalition party the New Flemish Alliance (N-VA) had already asked for this extra meeting on Friday. The N-VA is fiercely opposed to the agreement on migration, because according to the Flemish nationalists, Belgium could lose control of its migration policy through the pact. For coalition partners MR, Open Vld and CD \u0026 V, the prime minister must approve the migration pact on Monday. Prime Minister Michel said afterwards that there is 'no consensus' about the withdrawal of the earlier decision to support the pact.
