Popularity SPD smaller than ever

berlin - Just before the special party congress of the German Social Democrats, the SPD (Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands) has reached a low point in opinion polls.

If elections are held now, only 20 percent of voters vote for the SPD, according to polls from the German public broadcaster ZDF. Earlier this week, the SPD was even lower in other surveys.

On Sunday, the party meets to determine whether there should be a serious negotiation of a new coalition with the Christian Democrats led by Angela Merkel. That chancellor also loses luster in this poll. Shortly after the parliamentary elections in September, 62 percent of respondents said that they did a good job and that is now 54 percent.
