rome/london - Pope Francis has called for the recognition of the rights of all peoples in the Holy Land. According to him, that is the basis for a serious dialogue. The Pope spoke with Palestinians shortly before US President Trump announced Wednesday afternoon that the United States is recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
That step is a break with decades of American Middle Eastern politics. The move also runs counter to the wish of the United Nations to come to peace with two states in the former British mandate of Palestine: a Jewish state and a Palestinian.
