Pope Leo XIV Calls for Peace in Ukraine and Gaza During First Sunday Prayer

Pope Leo XIV addressed the suffering in Ukraine and Gaza during his inaugural Sunday prayer, expressing deep concern for the conflicts. He called for immediate ceasefires in both regions, emphasizing the need for humanitarian aid and the release of all hostages in Gaza.

Peace Accord Between India and Pakistan

Leo also praised the recent ceasefire and end of hostilities between India and Pakistan, highlighting the importance of peace globally. He called for prayers for the miracle of peace around the world.

The Vatican City's St. Peter's Square was filled with people eager to witness the new pope during his first Sunday prayer. Pope Leo XIV recited the Regina Caeli, a prayer dedicated to the Virgin Mary, in place of the usual angelus prayer between Easter and Pentecost.

Recognizing Mother's Day in Italy, the pope extended a special greeting to all mothers, acknowledging their sacrifices and remembering those who have passed away.
