rome - Pope Francis will not participate in weekend events of the Holy Year due to ongoing health issues, Vatican announced.

Pope's Health Condition

Pope Francis, 88, has been suffering from a respiratory infection for over a week and was hospitalized in Gemelli Hospital in Rome.

His scheduled public papal audience on Saturday has been canceled. The Sunday papal mass will proceed, led by a senior Vatican official instead.

Doctors modified the Pope's treatment for a 'complex clinical situation,' addressing a 'polymicrobial respiratory infection.'

Polymicrobial diseases can result from a combination of viruses, bacteria, and fungi. Pope Francis has faced flu and other health issues in recent years, having had pleurisy in his youth and a part of his lung removed. He is currently susceptible to lung infections.
