warsaw - The Polish Ministry of Justice has put a register with eight hundred sex offenders online. The register contains names, birth dates, residence, photographs and the crimes of the sex offenders.

The database contains mainly pedophiles who have abused children under fifteen. The register is constantly updated.

With the database, the ministry wants to better control the criminals and prevent new cases of abuse.

'The right to child protection counts heavier than the right to privacy of perpetrators,' says Justice Minister Zbigniew Ziobro.

The database is freely available to everyone. There is also a larger register which includes people who have been convicted for the possession of child pornography. This list can only be viewed by certain institutions, such as schools. Justice calls on schools to screen their personnel through this register.
