Plane Hijacking Incident in Belize

An American man was shot dead after stabbing three people while trying to hijack a small plane in Belize. The incident took place on a flight of Tropic Air, a Belizean airline, from Corozal to San Pedro.

Details of the Incident:

  • A passenger, believed to be a US war veteran, hijacked the Cessna Grand Caravan shortly after takeoff.
  • The plane had to make an emergency landing in Ladyville due to fuel shortage.
  • Another passenger, carrying a weapon permit, managed to shoot the hijacker, who later died from his injuries.

The motive of the 49-year-old attacker, Akinyela Sawa Taylor, remains unclear. He demanded to be flown out of the country and later asked for the plane to refuel, possibly heading to Mexico.
