The more than 100 million users of Pinterest will be able to click on an item in a picture, such as a lamp that has aroused their interest. Then they get to see other pictures of similar lamps. The virtual bulletin board so people will enable them to discover things they did not know that they like them.

Pinterest sees the new position as a next step towards an advanced visual search engine. The technology is expected to help increasing the number of advertisers on Pinterest. It is quite conceivable that users will soon get dished ads from merchants that match their visual search.
