washington - The parents of first lady Lady Melania Trump have become American citizens. Viktor (74) and Amalija (72) Knavs took the oath on the American constitution on Thursday (local time), writes The New York Times. Their lawyer Michael Wildes has confirmed this to the newspaper.

The Slovenian parents of Melania use the possibility of immigration through family reunification, a form of chain migration that was strongly criticized by President Donald Trump last November.

'Many people come into our country and they bring their whole family with them, who can be really malicious. Unacceptable, 'the president twittered.

Melania Trump was born in Slovenia and changed her family name from Knavs to Knauss.
