Palma makes housing rentals out of the question

palma de mallorca - Owners of floors or apartments in Palma de Mallorca may no longer rent the properties to tourists from 1 July. The center-left administration of the city of more than 400,000 inhabitants is the first Spanish municipality to take such drastic measures against the rental of living space to tourists.

The municipality wants to limit the uncontrolled rental. Research has shown that the 'wild' rental has doubled in size between 2015 and 2017 to at least 20,000 addresses in the city. Meanwhile, the regulated rental seems to be still in its infancy. Spanish media reported Tuesday that this tourist attraction and capital of the Balearic Islands only 645 apartments or floors that the municipality has a permit to rent to travelers and tourists.

The city will soon allow parts of single-family homes or remote houses to be rented out to tourists.
